Who is David Powell…
I am Brenda’s husband (over 27+ years and counting) with the coolest 3 kids a guy could pray for…Adam and his wife Chelsea, Rebekah and her Husband Ben, and Laura. A native of San Diego, raised in this Church from the age of 10, ran from ministry until God wore me out. Now I serve Him full time here at the Fellowship and love it…love the staff, the people, this place, the city and I just love to serve my Lord!
Favorite music – books – movies?
Music:You might say it’s really out there. Older rock with the likes of Pink Floyd and Kansas to newer Christian such as mewithoutyou and Pillar but that’s just to get me charged up. I would like to add, turn it up! If you have ever heard me play the piano you might think, from what I write, that I am all about classical.
Books: Next to the Bible it has to be “90 minutes in heaven” by Don Piper it changed my outlook on stepping into eternity and “His needs Her needs” by Willard F. Harley, Jr. (this just helps keep it real in marriage)
Movies:The classical “Somewhere in Time” I also love the soundtrack.
Hobbies?
Hanging out with many of my Celebrate Recovery friends and watching God develop that ministry – understand, it has a lot to do with the past that Christ saved me from. Speaking of the past, I could watch pole vaulting just about every day of my life!
Favorite Scripture?
Romans 9:21 God reminds us “ He is the potter and we are clay…“ and I also love Job 38:4 “where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation…” keeping it in perspective for us and Job, but of late I have been living Romans 12: 1-2 “and so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living sacrifice-the kind He will accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.”
